Car for your time:
Why is lifehacker spewing articles about House bills on abortion, and explanations on what a bump stock is? Will Jalopnik start telling me cooking tips?
I want lifehacks (good, evil, amazing how did I live without them, God that one sucks why did you bother telling me about it) from the part of your media website that is called lifehacker.
Maybe tell me where I can get an abortion, or do it myself using products from my pantry. Tell me how to make a bump stock (thank you comments guy who says I can hack the same effect with a looped belt and my hand).
I mean why have categories up there at the top if you can write about anything from any category.

These sites have been crossposting for years. Nothing new here.

No idea, but the proliferation of political articles across all of the sites is getting out of hand. I’m guessing they needed places to put all the authors who used to work for Gawker, not sure why they just didn’t add another site purely for politics.

Abortions and bumpstocks are both types of life hacks. Abortion is a life hack that keeps you from fucking up another human’s life, and a bumpstock is a life hack for when you’re poor, but still want an automatic weapon. What’s the problem?

We don’t complain about GMG blogs in Oppositelock - that’s what Cigar Lounge is for.

If there’s something you absolutely cannot forget to take with you when you leave the next morning, put it in your shoe before going to bed.

The articles didn’t tell me anything about how to do them. The articles only reported facts like news articles do. I included that above.

Because its guaranteed clicks. They’re both hot in the news, for their own reasons.

“the articles only reported facts like news articles do.”
The horror!

Articles that are off-topic piss me off too, but I don’t hate them altogether. Just post them to the right blog, no worries. (Aren’t they all co-workers anyway? Shouldn’t be too hard for them to get authorship on one another’s blogs.)
But I wonder... Is it considered clickbait if a blog called “Lifehacker” reports on something without offering some sort of helpful advice, DIY solution, or “hack”?

It’s the post gawkerpocalypse. Made a comment on Gizmodo asking what trump complaining about xyz had to do with the next iPhone coming out, or anything tech related for that matter - you know what Gizmodo is about? I was promptly met with Fuck Offs and don’t read it and the usual things you’d never say to my face. I think the Gizmodo justification was because it was a tweet.
I actually let it go on for a while expecting the occasional political post but when there were more political posts on the GZ front page I had enough.

I can’t wait until The Onion comes on board. Their abortion articles are the best!

Look, it’s fine if Jezebel occasionally manages a tech story, but Jezebel and Deadspin need to stay off my lawn. Stop ruining my angst with your reasonability.

Eh, on second thought, off-topic articles don’t really “piss me off”. “Irritating” would be the better word, I guess. GMG has a pretty well-rounded assortment of blogs, and it bugs me when a post gets published to the wrong one. The discussion isn’t as lively as it would have been had it been posted in view of the right audience. And I’m sure they lose some page-views, too. If someone wants to write a post about their favorite cars, they’d get a much better response by publishing it on Jalopnik than on one of the other blogs.
I’ve heard that there’s a genuine lack of co-ordination between the main blogs, but maybe they’re already trying to do something about that beyond the occasional shared post?
